Bagmati River Cleanup: Three Metric Tons of Waste Managed

Mar 21, Kathmandu - As part of the Bagmati Cleanup Campaign launched under the slogan "Two Hours of Volunteering for the Nation," cleaning activities were carried out at the Bagmati Bridge area in Sinamangal, where three metric tons of non-biodegradable waste were managed. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City took responsibility for managing the waste collected during today’s cleanup.

Participants in the cleanup included former Secretary General and Nepali Ambassador to China, Leelamani Poudel; Ward Member of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 9, Navaraj Adhikari; officials from the Bagmati Committee; and campaign volunteers. Kishorsingh Shahi, a campaign coordinator, provided this information.

The Bagmati Cleanup Campaign, which began on Jestha 5, 2070 BS, is now in its 671st session. Since its inception, the campaign has been conducting cleanup activities in the Bagmati River every Saturday morning for approximately two hours.

The initiative has inspired related cleanup drives in Kathmandu’s tributary rivers, various sections of Charkhapath, and river areas outside the capital city.

Recently, the campaign has also focused on converting compost from biodegradable waste, with local authorities managing the non-biodegradable waste effectively.
