Mar 20, Kathmandu - A pregnant woman in the district has undergone Nepal's first-ever successful cesarean section (C-section) at a district hospital using advanced surgical techniques. The 23-year-old expectant mother from Khandachakra Municipality was safely delivered on Chaitra 5 through a surgical procedure conducted despite limited resources.
Both mother and newborn are reported to be in good health following the operation, according to hospital officials. Medical professionals highlight that performing such a complex surgery in a resource-constrained setting marks a significant milestone for the hospital.
Dr. Ratnabir Sunar, the head of the district hospital in Kalikot, emphasized the importance of this achievement amidst the challenging circumstances of serving a remote area. “We successfully conducted a C-section to ensure a safe delivery,” he stated. “This is a remarkable milestone for our hospital and the region.”
The surgical team included Dr. Sunar, Dr. Darshan Pande, Anesthesia Assistant Birbal Chaudhary, and nursing staff Babita Thakur, Kabita Shahi, and Chanda Shahi.
The hospital regards this as a vital step toward expanding healthcare services in the rugged Karnali region. With the availability of such complex obstetric care locally, it is expected that pregnant women will face fewer obstacles in accessing safe delivery services without the need to travel outside the area.
