Mar 20, Kathmandu - In Shuklagandaki Municipality-5, Belchautara, Tanahun, a new maternal ward is set to be built at the GP Koirala Respiratory Treatment Center. The hospital has announced a call for bids to construct the maternity ward on the upper floor of the facility.
The project, valued at approximately NPR 13.05 million, is being funded by the Ministry of Health and Population, with hospital Executive Director Dr. Ram Kumar Shrestha confirming the initiative.
Once completed, the new maternity ward is expected to significantly enhance maternal and neonatal services at the regional level, ensuring better care for mothers and newborns, Shrestha stated.
The planned facility will include delivery beds, neonatal care equipment, essential medical supplies, a clean environment, and basic amenities for patients and visitors.
This development aligns with the government’s vision to establish South Asia’s premier respiratory treatment center. In 2067 B.S., the government decided to establish a national respiratory treatment center in honor of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. The center was later transferred to the Seitiganga Community Hospital in 2075 B.S.
Currently, the treatment center owns 740 ropani of land and treats a variety of patients, including traffic accident victims, cholera, typhoid, fever, gastrointestinal, and orthopedic cases.
