Nepali Congress Central Committee Concludes Meeting to Review Election Results and Discuss Resignation

Mar 20, Kathmandu - The Central Committee of the Nepali Congress held its meeting today at the party headquarters in Sanepa to evaluate the recent Federal Parliament election results and deliberate on President Gagan Thapa's resignation proposal.

Under the chairmanship of Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the meeting reviewed the preliminary election outcomes and discussed the resignation letter submitted by Chairman Thapa. During the session, Sharma outlined seven main reasons behind the party’s defeat, citing internal factionalism and widespread voter dissatisfaction with the previous UML-Congress coalition government as key factors.

Sharma argued that achieving victory within a short span of 50 days was unrealistic, emphasizing the need for a longer-term approach. Although Thapa's resignation was formally rejected in the meeting, an official decision on the matter is expected to be made by Sunday.

During the session, Sharma presented 27 reasons why Thapa’s resignation was unnecessary, advocating for unity and continued leadership. The meeting, which began today, has been adjourned and will reconvene at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
