Tensions Rise in Middle East: Flights from Abu Dhabi available but warning of sudden cancellations

Mar 16, Kathmandu - Amid escalating security tensions in the Middle East, the United States has issued an updated travel advisory urging its citizens in the region to remain vigilant. The U.S. State Department has highlighted that commercial flights to and from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are still available, but warns of sudden cancellations due to the volatile security situation.

According to the advisory, flights from Abu Dhabi and Dubai to various cities in the United States and Europe are currently operational. However, due to the ongoing security concerns, flight schedules may change unexpectedly or be canceled at short notice.

The advisory also notes that the land borders of the UAE with Saudi Arabia and Oman remain open, and commercial flights from these neighboring countries are continuing as usual. The U.S. State Department is closely monitoring the security environment in West Asia, emphasizing that the safety of American citizens remains the highest priority.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh has advised its nationals in Saudi Arabia to depart the country via commercial flights if possible. While Saudi Arabia’s airspace remains open, periodic restrictions have been imposed due to the threat of missile and drone attacks.

Flights from Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam airports are operational; however, travelers are urged to confirm flight statuses directly with airlines, as delays or cancellations may occur. The embassy has also instructed U.S. government employees in Saudi Arabia to stay indoors and avoid windows to minimize risks.

Earlier, on March 8, the State Department ordered the withdrawal of non-essential U.S. personnel from Saudi Arabia due to ongoing missile and drone threats. Additionally, Dubai International Airport temporarily suspended operations following a drone-related incident early Monday morning. Authorities reported that the fire caused by the incident has been controlled, and the airport has resumed operations.

The ongoing conflicts involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran have heightened security tensions across the Middle East, affecting air travel and civilian safety in the region.
