Record Number of Travellers Exit Kathmandu Valley Ahead of Elections and Festivals, Traffic Dips Significantly

Feb 28, Kathmandu - The number of travellers leaving Kathmandu Valley has surged noticeably due to upcoming elections, the Holi festival, and extended public holidays. According to the Federation Of Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Nepal, approximately eight lakh (800,000) passengers are expected to travel out of the valley by Falgun 19. Despite additional regular route services, a significant portion of travellers are opting for reserved seats.

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office reports that nearly three lakh (300,000) travelers have exited the valley in just one week, leading to almost a 50% reduction in road traffic. The police presence on the roads has also decreased, as most traffic personnel are deployed for election security.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced that all vehicular movement, except for essential services, will be suspended from 12 midnight on Falgun 20 until 5 PM on Falgun 21. Emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, and security forces will continue to operate during this period.
