Feb 24, Kathmandu - The death toll in a chartered air ambulance crash in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand has risen to seven, officials said on Tuesday.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that a Beechcraft C-90 operating a “medical evacuation (air ambulance) flight” crashed in the Kasariya area of the eastern state of Jharkhand on Monday.
Rescue and medical teams have reached the crash site, but local media reported that the crash site was deep in a remote forest. “A team of doctors found them, examined them and declared them dead,” local administrative officer Kirtishree told reporters. According to him, two of the seven dead were crew members.
The DGCA said that the plane, operated by Redbird Airways, lost contact with air traffic radar 23 minutes after it reported “loss of balance due to weather” on Monday night.
India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has been sent to the scene to investigate.
