Feb 21, Kathmandu - The local administration has imposed a curfew in Gaur Municipality-6, Sungadha village, following violent clashes between two communities that escalated tensions in the area.
According to the District Administration Office, the curfew was enforced starting at 1 PM on Saturday. The violence erupted during a prayer at a mosque when members of the Hindu community reportedly started playing musical instruments, leading to a dispute.
Since Friday morning, the entire Gaur region has been tense, with authorities declaring a curfew as the situation remains volatile. The curfew covers areas bounded by the Mudwalwa Gate to the east, Lalbakeya Dam to the west, Bam Nahar to the north, and the Gaur Customs Office to the south, as announced by Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal.
Law enforcement agencies are actively controlling the situation with air fire and tear gas shells. Clashes have been reported in Wards 4, 5, and 6 of Gaur, with reports of arson, property damage, and injuries.
During the curfew period, all individuals are strictly prohibited from stepping outside their homes, gathering, protesting, or travelling. Police have also reported that protesters set fire to some vehicles and caused damage to homes.
To prevent further escalation, the administration has deployed Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the Nepal Army to maintain law and order.
