Sri Lankan Navy Detains 25 Indian Fishermen for Illegal Fishing near Jaffna

Feb 16, Kathmandu - The Sri Lankan Navy announced on Monday the arrest of 25 Indian fishermen in the Kankesanthurai area of Jaffna for illegal fishing activities.

According to the navy, the fishermen entered the area late on Sunday night, and two mechanized boats used for fishing were seized from their possession.

The fishermen are currently in custody and will be handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources for further investigation.

The navy emphasized that illegal fishing practices have significantly impacted the livelihoods of local fishermen. To combat this, regular patrols and operations are being conducted to prevent illegal activities by foreign vessels.
