Former Minister Accused of Corruption Arrested While Trying to Flee the Country

Feb 16, Kathmandu - Ukrainian authorities say the former energy minister was arrested as he tried to leave the country.

Last year, former Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko was implicated in a corruption scandal and was later removed from his post.

Halushchenko was arrested on a train leaving Ukraine, although it is not clear which country he was travelling to.

He was named in an alleged fraud worth nearly $100 million that came to light in November.

The scandal has raised fears that it could also engulf the administration of President Volodymyr Zelensky, who came to power on a promise to crack down on corruption before the start of the war with Russia.
