Nepal Telecom Celebrates 22nd Anniversary with Focus on Digital Transformation and Rural Connectivity

Feb 05, Kathmandu - Nepal Telecom marked its 22nd anniversary today with celebrations across its central and regional offices. The event highlighted the company’s achievements and outlined future plans to enhance digital services and expand connectivity in remote areas.

The central program was presided over by Laxmi Kumari Basyneet, Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Chair of Nepal Telecom’s Board of Directors. Chief Guest Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal praised Nepal Telecom for its noteworthy contributions in bridging the digital divide and expanding communication access in rural regions.

Minister Aryal emphasized that Nepal Telecom’s efforts in digital inclusion and service delivery are vital for strengthening governance and citizen-government relations. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with Nepal Telecom to implement policies and initiatives that benefit citizens and bolster the company’s growth.

Laxmi Kumari Basnet highlighted Nepal Telecom’s role in adopting new technologies and research to provide accessible, high-quality services. She stressed the importance of extending digital services to remote areas, including telehealth, telemedicine, and tele-education, which can significantly improve the quality of life and accelerate the nation’s digital transformation.

Bijendra Bhandari, Chairman of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, noted Nepal Telecom’s skilled workforce and extensive network infrastructure as key factors for market expansion and increased revenue. He advised the company to focus on timely completion of ongoing projects and network development.

Company Board Member (Employee Representative) Lok Bahadur Katuwal called for fair competition, urging reforms to reduce licensing and renewal costs for organizations like Nepal Telecom. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between management and employees to address staffing and operational issues.

Nepal Telecom’s Deputy Managing Director Rajendra Aryal provided an overview of the company’s recent achievements, including the successful expansion of 4G LTE services across all seven provinces and 77 districts, reaching 749 local levels. He also announced that the company is reviewing proposals for 5G services, ongoing FTTH expansion, and the deployment of new data centers and cloud platforms.

The celebration underscored Nepal Telecom’s commitment to connecting even the most remote areas and advancing the nation’s digital agenda, ensuring that technology benefits every citizen.
