Issues with Online Tax Collection System Cause Discontent Among Citizens in Pokhara

Jan 04, Kathmandu - Citizens in Pokhara have expressed frustration due to recurring problems with the online tax collection system used by the Pokhara Metropolitan City.

In response, Ward 13 of Pokhara Metropolitan City has brought the issue to the attention of the Chief Administrative Officer, citing difficulties faced by taxpayers.

Ward Chairman Kiran Baral submitted a memorandum to Chief Administrative Officer Mukti Ram Aryal, demanding an extension of the tax deadline until the end of Chaitra, citing disruptions in the system that prevented service users from paying their taxes on time.

He stated, "It is extremely unfortunate and concerning that taxpayers, who voluntarily pay taxes despite their busy schedules for the betterment of the nation, are compelled to return empty-handed due to system failures, and are forced to repeatedly visit the office."

Expressing concern over the technological challenges hindering quick and efficient service delivery, Baral called for the simplification, ease, and reliability of the revenue system.

The ward office has requested an extension of the tax exemption deadline, which is currently set until the end of Paush, due to the system malfunctions that prevented taxpayers from paying on time.

Pokhara Metropolitan City has already extended the tax deadline until the end of Paush, but officials are now urging to prolong it until the end of Chaitra.

"Due to server outages, many service users are being deprived of timely services. Therefore, with the expectation of a citizen-friendly and effective service delivery, we request an extension of the tax exemption period until the end of Chaitra," the memorandum states.

All wards in Pokhara are currently experiencing server issues, leading to widespread disruptions in service.
