Nov 16, Kathmandu - Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma has met with President Sher Bahadur Deuba and warned him of his resignation.
General Secretary Sharma met with him for about an hour from 12 noon on Sunday.
During that meeting, Sharma said that he would resign if the special general convention or the regular general convention is not held within the period specified in the statute.
He also said that the central committee meeting is being held hostage and that Monday's meeting should not be postponed.
"There is a legal obligation to hold a special general convention before 27th of Pus. This cannot be stopped by a decision of the central committee or any other level," a source close to Sharma said, quoting Sharma. "The only way to avoid this is through a regular general convention within the same period."
He said that he would not remain in office in such a situation, saying that it would be a violation of the statute if there is no regular or special general convention. He had requested that he be made former general secretary if the current central committee meeting decides not to attend any special or regular general convention.
“If there is no special or regular general convention, I will not continue in this position,” the source said, quoting him, “I will resign with immediate effect, please make me the former general secretary!”
Sharma had said that after he said that, President Deuba had urged him not to make such a decision.
“Where can I get brothers to do that, we have to organize the party,” Sharma had told the appointees about Deuba’s statement. Deuba has not given any indication about a special or regular general convention with Sharma.
The source said that apart from saying that the party should be organized, he only gave the general secretary a message that he would not resign.
