Discussions in Thailand On 'Roadmap' to End Caste Discrimination

Nov 04, Kathmandu - A roadmap for ending caste discrimination in the Asia Pacific region has been discussed at the ongoing Asia Pacific Social Forum in Bangkok. The discussion was jointly organized by Dalit Welfare Organization (DWO), World Dignity Forum, and organizations from Nepal and India.

During the discussion, former Nepali Ambassador to the United States and International Member of the World Social Forum, Dr. Arjun Karki, said that caste discrimination is the main cause of inequality and that it is sad that such discrimination exists even during the information technology revolution.

Ashok Bharti, founder of the World Dignity Forum and an Indian Dalit leader, said that the issue of caste discrimination is a global issue and that a global struggle is needed to end it.

Arjun Bhattarai, president of the Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations, said that caste discrimination is a political issue and that constitutional and legal provisions should be implemented to end it.

Similarly, International Dalit Solidarity Network (IDSN) President Renu Sijapati said that caste discrimination has a greater impact on Dalit women and said that legal reforms should be made to end it and investment should be made in education.

Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance (DLMGA) founder Pradeep Pariyar said that everyone has the responsibility to end caste discrimination and said that they should work on the implementation of the constitution, religious reforms, economic justice and digital campaigns, informed Sushil BK, who participated in the conference.
